Sunrise Elopement in West Vancouver: Wildflowers, Ocean Views & Secret Trails

Some couples come to me with big plans, Pinterest boards, and years of ideas. Others come with a simple request: make it beautiful, make it easy, and make it us.

That’s exactly what N and M wanted for their wedding day. Something low-key, low-stress, and full of meaning. Just the two of them, in a spot that captured their vibe: coastal, forested, and wildly beautiful.

They originally had their eyes on Juniper Point until I had to break the news that weddings aren’t permitted in Lighthouse Park. (If you're curious why, I wrote a whole blog about it: Can You Get Married at Lighthouse Park?).

But don’t worry, I had a backup plan. And this one? This one might just be my favourite yet!

A Hidden Gem in Eagle Harbour

Imagine this: a narrow trail between two unassuming houses leads you to a coastal cliff bursting with wild purple blooms…

THIS is where we ended up. It’s a completely off-the-radar location tucked away in Eagle Harbour. I love sharing all about my favourite spots, but this one… this one is staying in the exclusive Sea to Sky Location Library (wink). Let’s just say it’s a tiny path between two houses in a residential neighbourhood, and if you didn’t know it was there, you’d walk right past it. But take a one-minute stroll down that trail and you’re greeted with sweeping ocean views, rugged coastline, and at this time of year, an explosion of blooming purple wildflowers that make the whole place feel like a fairy wonderland.

I checked on the location the night before, like I always do, to make sure it was clean and safe. What I didn’t expect was to be greeted by another photographer who asked if I was there for the whales. Uh… no? What a treat to stay and connect with a new photographer. Sure enough, a pod of orcas swam by as the sun set. Talk about a sign that this location was meant for something special!

Up at 1:40 AM and Worth Every Second

Because N and M were jetting off to Europe on their honeymoon the same day as their wedding, we planned their elopement for sunrise. That meant hair and makeup started at 2:00 a.m.! Huge shoutout to Hanna from Hanna Artistry, who literally parked outside their house, and stayed up watching Netflix in her car just to make sure she didn’t snooze through her alarm. Dedication like that is so unreal. And, of course, she crushed the look, as always.

The florals had been delivered the day before (no way I was trying to coordinate that at 4 a.m.), so when N and M arrived at the spot, they were totally ready. I let them walk the trail first to take it all in because I knew it would take their breath away. They were glowing and giddy… maybe even a little teary-eyed! My heart was full watching them experience it all for the first time.

The whole team agreed! They all said it was one of my best locations yet. Jude told me, “Jocelyn, you’ve done it again!” And honestly, I never get tired of hearing that. I put so much thought and heart into matching the perfect place to each couple. It’s not just about finding something pretty, it’s about finding somewhere that feels like them. It’s a labour of love that I love doing.

Vows, Waves, and Wildflowers

We filmed their ceremony for their family, and it was such a sweet and heartfelt moment. Just the two of them, ocean breeze in their hair, with the waves crashing behind. Since we started before the sun was fully up, I brought along some lanterns to light the way and add a cozy glow for early portraits. It made everything feel even more intimate and whimsical.

N looked like a dream. Her dress was soft and romantic, and her bold red lips absolutely popped! M’s suit had this stunning floral lining on the inside and a meaningful family pin, which was a subtle touch that added so much heart. And then, of course, there were those wildflowers. I seriously can’t stop talking about them. They were magic.

Wondering if a sunrise elopement like this could be your kind of magic?
You don’t have to plan it alone. Let me help you find your own wildflower-lined path.

Is Two Hours Enough for an Elopement?

Absolutely! When it’s just the two of you and one location, two hours is perfect.

N and M booked our 2-hour elopement, and we were able to capture everything: their ceremony, a portrait session by the sea, sweet candid moments, and even some fun shots with lanterns at first light. Sarah from Unspoken Photography delivered over 40 sneak peek photos, and they’re absolutely stunning. There was no rush, no stress, and nothing felt forced. It was the perfect amount of time to soak in the moment and create lasting memories.

That said, if you’re planning to bring guests, include a small picnic or celebration, or want to visit multiple locations (which we absolutely can do!), I highly recommend booking a longer time slot. Elopements don’t have to feel rushed or crammed into a schedule. Our job is to make sure your day feels unhurried, full of intention, beautifully captured… and completely yours

And Then… Europe!

After we wrapped up, I gave N a few quick tips on how to preserve her bouquet while they were away. Then they headed home for breakfast, a quick spa visit, and off to London to kick off their honeymoon adventure. What a way to start married life!

Sarah and I lingered a little longer, chatting about the morning and soaking up the calm. And on my way home, I found another hidden gem. That’s the thing about this job: you’re always discovering new beauty, new corners of the world to share. I can’t wait to use that next spot (and yes, it also has wildflowers but only until the end of June, so someone book it right now!)
