Wedding Trends: What’s In and Out for 2025

New year, new trends! Couples are embracing fresh ideas to make their celebrations more meaningful and unique. Whether you’re planning a large affair or an intimate elopement, these trends will inspire you to create a wedding day that feels truly your own. Let’s dive into what’s trending (and what’s on its way out) for 2025.

What’s In for 2025

1. Drapery. Everywhere.

Drapery is taking centre stage in wedding decor for 2025. From exquisite backdrops to cascading ceiling installations and elegant aisle runners, drapery adds romance and dimension to any space. Mixing textures like velvets, satins, soft linens, and ruffled edges creates depth, luxury, and movement. Dramatic drapery transforms a beautiful venue or natural outdoor location into something extraordinary. Plus, it is much more sustainable than single-use decor.

2. Curves for Days

Straight lines are out, and curves are in! Serpentine tables, creative aisle designs, unique circular arrangements, beautiful curved arches, and asymmetric designs… this trend toward curvature adds so much softness and creativity. While these setups require more logistical planning, they’re perfect for intimate ceremonies in natural settings, like forest meadows or beach landscapes. Nature has next to no straight lines, so you will fit more beautifully into your environment when you use curves.

3. Sunrise Ceremonies

Imagine exchanging vows with the first light of day bathing the landscape in soft hues. Sunrise weddings, especially those involving adventure elopements, are gaining traction. I currently have two sunrise helicopter elopements on the books for this season and I sure wouldn't be mad doing more of them! While not for everyone, early-morning sunrises offer a completely different light than the sunset golden hour. It's a soft romantic light that feels airy and free, and your photos will be SO unique.

4. Private Vows

More couples are opting to exchange vows privately before the ceremony. This trend allows for a deeply personal and intimate moment, away from the spotlight. Perfect if you struggle with public speaking or simply want to share this experience with just your partner, private vows provide a meaningful way to connect. Plus, these quiet moments often result in some of the most heartfelt wedding photos. If videography is part of your elopement package, we will mic you up and back off so you can share your special moment while still having a way to hold onto the moment with a video keepsake.

5. Hometown Weddings

While destination weddings remain popular, there’s a renewed interest in hosting weddings close to home. Couples are leaning into nostalgia, choosing venues with personal significance, such as a family home or a meaningful local spot. This shift adds a layer of storytelling and creates a warm, intimate atmosphere for guests.

What’s Out for 2025

1. Random Destinations

Destination weddings are still a thing, but couples are focusing on locations with personal meaning rather than random picturesque spots. Locations tied to their own stories or interests make their weddings and elopements more memorable and deeply personal. A new destination can be a much more purposeful choice when it reflects your interests and allows you to build new memories somewhere you've been aching to visit.

2. Rigid Dress Codes

Formal black-tie dress codes are losing steam as couples embrace guest individuality. Instead of prescribing exact attire, couples are providing colour palettes and general vibes to guide guests. This approach allows for creative expression and weaves guests into the visual story of the day.

3. Matchy-Matchy Aesthetics

Gone are the days of strict coordination. From mismatched china to layered textures in decor, the trend is moving toward complementary designs rather than cookie-cutter uniformity. This gives a stronger sense of richness and depth to the event. The same goes for wedding parties! Expect more variation in dresses, suits, and accessories. The focus is increasingly on harmony rather than exact matches.

4. Boutonnieres

I know, I know, you hate that this is out, but hear me out: Boutonnieres are taking a backseat to the more modern and sleek pocket square. While the boutonniere has long been a wedding staple, pocket squares are gaining popularity for their polished and understated elegance.

5. Hold Your Peace

Having your officiant ask "If anyone knows a reason why these two should not be together, speak now or forever hold your peace" is not legally necessary. Sure, it's a great opening for a dramatic scene in your favourite rom-com movie, but that long-used question is definitely on its way out in real life.

Let Your Wedding Reflect You

Ultimately, 2025 is all about personalization, creativity, and meaning. From embracing hometown charm to swapping tradition for individuality, these trends allow couples to dream up weddings that truly represent their love stories.
