Real Wedding: T + J’s Intimate Bloedel Conservatory Elopement in Vancouver
Photography by Unspoken Photography.
If you’re dreaming of a romantic Vancouver wedding surrounded by lush greenery, tropical plants, and natural beauty, the Bloedel Conservatory might just be your perfect match!
When T and J reached out to me for their elopement, they envisioned something private, natural, and accessible for their families. They wanted their wedding day to be a celebration centred on connection rather than production. As soon as I got to know them, I knew their day had to reflect their love of nature, thoughtful personalities, and deep care for their families. The answer? A September microwedding at the Bloedel Conservatory in Vancouver’s Queen Elizabeth Park.
Choosing the Perfect Elopement Location
Accessibility was a top priority since J’s father uses a wheelchair, and both T and J wanted a venue that would feel lush, private, and full of character. I created a custom location list for them, and when they visited Queen Elizabeth Park, J lit up the moment he saw the Conservatory. As a self-proclaimed “plant dad” whose home is overflowing with greenery, he couldn’t imagine a more fitting space to say “I do.” Of course, they explored the other locations on the list to be sure, but the Conservatory was “the one”.
The Bloedel Conservatory is a domed tropical paradise filled with 500+ exotic plants, koi fish, and free-flying birds. A well-loved Vancouver landmark and designated heritage building, it’s a favourite destination for visitors and locals alike. When rented privately after hours, it transforms into a serene, intimate oasis. For T and J, it offered everything: greenery, intimacy, accessibility, and a playful touch of personality.

A Wedding Day That Felt Personal and Intentional
Both T and J wanted to keep things simple, elegant, and deeply meaningful. T said it perfectly: “The whole wedding is such a production, and it’s easy to lose track of what really matters. What matters is my marriage to J — not our wedding.”
Eloping never has to mean losing tradition altogether. For example, T wanted her parents to walk her down the aisle. It was a family tradition she cherished.
T wore a classic white gown with button details, carried timeless white florals, and even included a treasured heirloom from J’s grandmother — a pearl necklace. Everything about her look was elegant, personal, and intentional. The getting-ready time was full of laughter, especially with Hannah providing professional hair and makeup for T, her moms, and her sisters.
And because Sea to Sky Elopements packages are fully customizable, T and J made the day their own by adding extras: boutonnieres and corsages for their parents, floral arrangements for their intimate dinner, and even chairs at the Conservatory for their guests. What started as an elopement grew into a beautiful microwedding. Real proof that you can design your day exactly how you want it.

A Ceremony Surrounded by Greenery
One of my favourite memories of the day actually happened in the parking lot just before the ceremony. T and her sister took a moment to film the second part of a fun Instagram transition video before heading inside. (You can watch it here!) It was such a lighthearted moment that perfectly captured T’s personality and the joy of the day.
We timed their ceremony for golden hour, which meant the Conservatory was bathed in soft, glowing light as guests settled into their seats. With the unique circular layout, I was able to coordinate a “first look” that doubled as T’s aisle walk. J had his back turned, and as the music swelled, he was directed to turn around just in time to see T walking toward him with her parents. It was such a heartfelt moment …and yes, there were tears.
Of course, no Conservatory wedding would be complete without a few feathered guests. As the couple exchanged vows, the parrots squawked enthusiastically, and one bird even gave a perfect little “whoo whoo” whistle as if to cheer them on. (Yes, you can watch that, too!)

Golden Hour Portraits and a Tea Ceremony
After signing the marriage license and enjoying some family photos, the Conservatory became a playground for portraits. The glass dome flooded with sunset light, turning the tropical leaves into a glowing backdrop. At Sarah’s direction, T even kicked off her shoes and climbed onto a rock for a barefoot moment as I reflected the golden sun back onto her with a shiny, reflective shield. The outcomes were pure magic!
The night ended at Hawksworth Restaurant in the Rosewood Hotel Georgia. Surrounded by close family, T and J hosted a traditional tea ceremony, cut cake, and enjoyed an intimate dinner in the Bel Room. T changed into her stunning red traditional dress, and it was the perfect ending to a day that felt thoughtful, personal, and so authentically them.
Why I Loved This Elopement
T and J are exactly the kind of couple I adore working with: fun, easygoing, authentic, and deeply connected to what matters most. They didn’t want a show; they wanted meaning. Their Conservatory microwedding was a true reflection of their love, and it was an absolute joy to help bring it to life.
