Eloping in Langley, BC: Tying the Knot in Blaauw Eco Forest

Real Weddings: Kristen and Nick’s Intimate Celebration at Blaauw Eco Forest

Kristen and Nick’s elopement was one of those weddings that stuck with me long after the day. From the moment they booked me—over a year in advance!—I could feel how much this day meant to them. They’d been following my work for a while and were excited to have me plan their elopement; which was such an honour for me.

Their wedding was the first time their family had been together in 13 years, which made it even more special. With loved ones scattered across the country, this day wasn’t just about Kristen and Nick's union. It was also about reconnecting as a family. I was delighted to help bring the special day together.

Choosing the Perfect Location

Originally, we considered Derby Reach Regional Park for the ceremony. It’s a gorgeous location. Plus, it was where Kristen, Nick, and their family would be camping after the wedding. (Yes, they spent their wedding night camping—how fun is that?) But after discussing the logistics, I gently recommended against it. Derby Reach is a very popular area, and I wanted to ensure their day felt as intimate and private as possible.

That’s when we landed on Blaauw Eco Forest.

Nestled in Glen Valley in Langley, the Blaauw Eco Forest is a hidden gem, featuring a mix of coniferous forests, ponds, and a bog. The property, donated by the Blaauw family to Trinity Western University, is used for education and research, making it a peaceful, preserved space perfect for small ceremonies.

It’s important to note that because of the university’s research, visitors must stay on the paths to protect the forest floor. For this reason, it’s ideal for very small groups. Our group was on the larger side for a microwedding, which made the setup a little tight. However, with a bit of creativity, we made it work beautifully and were able to fit chairs, candles, and subtle decor.

Special Touches That Made Their Day Unique

Kristen and Nick’s day wasn’t just beautiful—it was packed with personality and sentimental details. For instance, Nick had the interior lining of his suit covered in photos of their dog. It was one of the most adorable, unexpected touches I’ve ever seen, and it didn’t stop there. He also had custom socks made with photos of their dog, which added a fun, playful vibe to their attire.

Kristen’s bouquet carried its own sentimental touch: a locket featuring photos of her grandmother. It was a subtle yet powerful way to honour her family, and I loved how personal it made her flowers.

These little details weren’t just about the aesthetics—they told a story. They were a reflection of who Kristen and Nick are as a couple, and it’s always such a joy to help bring those stories to life.

The Ceremony and Celebration

Kristen and Nick’s ceremony at Blaauw Eco Forest was intimate and full of love. The natural beauty of the forest created a serene and magical atmosphere.

After the ceremony, the couple headed to dinner with their family, celebrating the moment with good food and laughter. Then, true to their adventurous spirit, they capped off the night by heading back to their campsite.

Reflecting on Their Day

Kristen and Nick’s elopement was a reminder that weddings can be small and still feel grand, extravagant and meaningful. Their day was simple yet filled with love, family, and personal touches that made it uniquely theirs.
